The Aetna PayFlex Card^®

The Aetna PayFlex Card^® is a debit card that provides a simple way to use the money in your HRA, your FSA for Health Care, or both. The debit card accesses the money in your account electronically when you decide to use it to pay for eligible expenses. If you enrolled in the Active Health Option, please remember the following before using your debit card:

• If you participate in an FSA, your FSA funds will be used before your HRA funds to pay for qualified expenses
• The HRA pays for medical expenses only
• You may need to verify purchases made with your card (see below for more information)

Substantiation

There may be times that we need documentation to verify that you used your card to pay for an eligible item or service.

You can send us the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) or itemized receipt for the card payment by doing the following:

• Upload to the PayFlex site as a PDF file
• Send through the PayFlex Mobile app
  
• Fax or mail it to PayFlex.

To stay up to date on your card transactions, we encourage you to sign up to receive debit card notifications through e-mail, web alert or both. Log in to the PayFlex site and click on My Settings. Then click on Notifications/Email Address and select the notifications you wish to receive. Be sure to sign up for the Debit Card Substantiation Notification. This e-mail notification will let you know when we need documentation from you.

Once you enroll in the Active Health Option, a Health Reimbursement Account, or HRA, is automatically opened for you to help you pay for current or future eligible medical expenses. New York Life makes contributions on your behalf, and you can decide when to use them. You also can earn health incentive dollars for completing certain healthy activities.

The Flexible Spending Account, or FSA, for Health Care is an account you can use to pay for eligible out-of-pocket medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and hearing care expenses on a tax-free basis. The expenses can be for you or your dependents (even if they aren’t covered by a company-sponsored plan). For a complete list of eligible expenses, visit www.irs.gov and see publication 502.
